Australia China Alumni Award for the Arts and Creative Industries
This award recognises alumni who have achieved excellence in the Arts and Creative sectors and/or whose efforts promote the understanding and value of artistic and creative endeavours.
It seeks to recognize creativity and success in one or more of a variety of fields, including art and design, architecture, fashion design, literature, music, performing arts, advertising, publishing and the creative media.
A nominee should have a demonstrated ability to use their creative skills in new and innovative ways, perhaps by working across creative mediums, combining or introducing new concepts into the field, and/or introducing creative concepts into new/unique markets.

| Mr Zhihua Duan | 段智华 先生 Monash University and RMIT Co-Founder / Design Principal, POCCA 莫纳什大学校友 墨尔本皇家理工大学校友 上海颇可艺术设计有限公司联合创办人 / 设计主理 Shanghai based Zhihua is the Founding Partner & Design Principal of Pocca. He holds a MDes in Design from Monash University Art Design & Architecture, and received a Certificate of Artist Book Training from RMIT University. He is a professional member of AGDA (Australian Graphic Design Association), Shanghai Art Director Club, and The Type Directors Club (New York). He has exhibited his work internationally among China, US, Australia, Japan, Korea, Germany, Russia, and Portugal. His works have been featured in publications from Internationally renowned art & design publishers, like Gestalten (Germany), Niggli (Switzerland), and Victionary (Hong Kong,China). He was the curator and designer of the first Chinese publication SEAN HOGAN: 30 WORKS 2014–2020 for the renowned Melbourne-based designer and artist Sean Hogan, and the first solo exhibition CATHERINE GRIFFITHS: SOLO IN [ ] SPACE in China for the internationally renowned New Zealand designer and typography artist Catherine Griffiths. Yiying Lu is an award-winning artist, entrepreneur, educator, and bilingual speaker. | Mr Tony Luo | 罗鼎杰 先生 University of Melbourne University of Tasmania Policy Manager of Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions, Victoria 墨尔本大学和塔斯马尼亚大学校友 维多利亚州政府就业和地区部门政策经理 Melbourne based Passionate about urban planning innovation, cross-cultural relations and policy development, Tony is a Policy Manager at the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (Victorian Government). Tony holds a Bachelor of Environments with majors in Property, Urban Design and Planning at the University of Melbourne. In 2020, Tony was appointed as a Local Pathways Fellow for the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network Youth (UN SDSN Youth) and undertook research work to progress Sustainable Development Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities. Tony had contributed to award-winning ideas in the topics of smart cities, creative placemaking and the digital economy. His leadership and research experiences had earned him prize awards for the Our Future Cities Competition, Future City: Smart Design for Post-Pandemic World International Competition, and UHack Innovation Hackathon. Tony had also shared his research findings in the 2020 Our Future Our Voices Virtual Summit hosted by the International Youth Foundation. Throughout his professional career, Tony had worked on various government forward-thinking infrastructure projects at numerous Victorian Government agencies, including the Victorian Planning Authority, Suburban Rail Loop Authority and Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions. As a highly motivated individual, Tony had partaken innovation-driven and cross-cultural and opportunities in China as a selected recipient for the Yenching Global Symposium, Tsinghua University International Summer School and Young Leaders to China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program. Tony had also focussed on developing the leadership potential of young people and was actively involved in a diverse range of not-for-profit organisations including the Centre for Multicultural Youth. Tony strives to constantly exercise creative thinking in his leadership experiences to enhance the liveability, climate resilience, and economic vibrancy of cities in Australia and China. | Mr Paul Peng | 彭勃 先生 University of New South Wales Leading Architect, IAPA PTY. LTD. 新南威尔士大学校友 澳大利亚IAPA设计顾问有限公司总建筑师 Sydney based Mr. Paul Peng earned the Master of Architecture in University of New South Wales in 1995. After that, he worked in a few well-known architectural design firms in Australia and became a member of the Australian Institute of Architects. Towards the end of 2002, He founded IAPA Design Consultants business in Guangzhou, China, and serves as the managing director. Mr. Peng is an outstanding Australian and Chinese architect with more than 30 years of design experience. He is specializing in re-interpret the oriental traditional culture into modem design context. Over the past two decades, he has designed and completed numerous projects, many of which have drawn international recognition and received awards in acclaimed international design competitions. | Mr Tiandu Yang | 杨天渡 先生 University of Melbourne Managing Partner, Quantum Gallery & Vantaly Art 墨尔本大学校友 量子画廊及凡达利艺术执行合伙人 Shanghai based I first moved to Australia at the age of 14 to attend high school, and later graduated from the University of Melbourne with double degrees in Commerce and Arts. During my university years, I was a founding member and later president of Young Entrepreneurs, an organisation that aims to raise the awareness of entrepreneurship across Australian universities. After graduation, I worked as an investment analyst at Lion Capital, a long standing and successful investment fund founded by seasoned investment markets professional Bruce Parncutt AO. I worked there for 5 years and earned my certification as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), known as the most stringent and recognised designation in the global investment industry My passion for art and entrepreneurship has led to a major career change in 2016. I decided to move back to China to join an art consulting and project management firm called Vantaly Art Projects. As the managing director of Vantaly, I saw the opportunity to introduce public art from an international array of artist to China’s urban development. In one of my first public art projects, I worked with renowned Australian artist Andrew Rogers to create a new public sculpture in the city of Hangzhou. The firm has since expanded in large-scale public art projects and I have worked with artists from Australia, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and beyond. In 2019 I founded Quantum Gallery to bring works of undiscovered young and upcoming artists from overseas to China. I felt there was a gap of understanding between art of the East and the West, and the gallery aims to facilitate a cross-cultural exchange of ideas. One of the first exhibitions was of a Chinese artist who had been living in Australia for many years, the exhibition successfully brought the artist to a much wider audience and art collectors. Opening my own art gallery was a childhood dream, I was thrilled to see it happen. | Ms Ying Zhu | 朱莹 女士 University of Adelaide Freelance Writer and Translator 阿德莱德大学校友 翻译与写作自由撰稿人 Zhuhai My current position is freelance and independent scholar, mainly working on book translation and supervising students for theses when being invited. In recent years, I’ve finished more than 100 thousands words of translation of papers, and completed translation of three books: two of these have been published and made success in both the academic and general book market; the third is undergoing editors’ review. On average, each book contains 150 thousands words. Along with these, I run two social media and make regular posts about intercultural communications, Australian Sinologists, and scientists, making multi-cultural links between Australia and China. I am accredited professional translator by NAATI and entitled expert member by TAC. I believe that my great achievements after graduation are that I did my best efforts to demonstrate what I learnt from Australia. I had a hard time after coming back because of my middle age which made it difficult to find a good position in China. But I did not let the life drift me out to wherever I was put in. My hard experience and being tough endeavor, would be inspiring to students and many others who may also face life and career difficulties.
