This award celebrates alumni who have made significant accomplishments within a corporate environment across all industry sectors.  

A nominee’s achievements can span an entire career or can be a single outstanding accomplishment, with outcomes that not only advanced the performance of her or his organization but also developed an internal company culture. 

It seeks to recognise both established and emerging commercial leaders, all of whom should have been able to demonstrate leadership ability, a flair for her or his field, and a passion for corporate social responsibility.

Winner of 2018 KINGOLD – Australia China Alumni Award for Corporate Achievement
   Dr Jennifer Cronin

Dr Jennifer Cronin has built an extensive career track record in hospitality with positions held throughout Asia and Australia. She was appointed President of Wharf Hotels in February 2016 after serving as Vice President Sales & Marketing from 2014, leading 17 Niccolo and Marco Polo Hotels in the region.

A Doctorate of Philosophy graduate in 2016 from Bond University, Dr Cronin based her PhD research title on“Empowering Readiness; influencing crisis management success outcomes”.  She was awarded the 2013 Australian Postgraduate Award, conferred by the Commonwealth’s Department of Innovation, Industry, Science & Research, an award presented to elite students based on academic achievement, proven research ability and research potential.  Recently, she was awarded with Bond University’s most prestigious alumni accolade and the Robert Stable Alumni Medal, for her exceptional achievement in bridging academia and industry.  2016 culminated with Dr Cronin receiving the 2016 Asia Pacific BMW Corporate Hotelier of the Year Award. 

Dr Cronin’s commitment to professional development and supporting future hoteliers is evidenced with her appointment to Chairperson of the Industry Advisory Committee for the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as well as the Advisory Board of the Bond Business School, Bond University.

Ms Evelyn Kuo
   Manager of Investment Division, Taiwan Sotheby’s International Realty
   Western Sydney University Alumna
   Taipei Based

Evelyn graduated from University of Western Sydney in 2000 and went to the United States to pursue her Master’s degree and subsequently gain work experience. In 2005, she returned to Taiwan to work in Citibank in their corporate banking division. In 2009, she began her career in commercial real estate, offering office leasing.

In 2014, Taiwan Sotheby’s offered her a great opportunity. Prior to Evelyn Kuo joining Sotheby’s Taiwan, their primary focus was residential real estate. she brought expertise and skills in commercial real-estate and has built a high-performing and respected team from the ground up. Her team primarily servicing large corporate and the business covers leasing and sales on commercial office buildings, retail stores, shopping malls, industrial real estate and land, and international commercial real estate investment. She has served as the head of the new business division since then.

Mr Jicheng Liu

JC LIU is a Chinese business leader with extensive experience in government and commercial affairs. Prior to the private sector, JC served the Chinese government in the mainland of China and in Hong Kong respectively. JC directly participated in Hong Kong’s return to China as a Chinese government representative from 1992 to 1997. In the private sector, JC, held senior management positions in listed foreign, Chinese and state-owned enterprises. He has a proven track record in developing and managing listed companies and leading capital market operations including the successful IPO of Dynasty Fine Wines and the cross-border acquisition of Shanghai listed Tianjin Port for HKD 11 billion. The amount of funds raised through his leadership has exceeded USD 1 billion. He has recently been invited to join Jumore E-commerce, a global supply chain digital platform as managing director, working with the founder to help promote economic and trade activities between China and the rest of the world through digital tools.

JC graduated from Macquarie University, Australia, with Masters Degrees in Management and Business Administration. JC has also donated to Macquarie University’s mobility scholarship.

Mr Malcolm (Yung Sian) Lai
   Managing Director, Baring Private Equity Asia

I commenced my career as an Architect in Hong Kong back in 1991 after graduating in Australia but have progressed to managing real estate fund investments throughout the Asia Pacific region including numerous projects in China firstly with AIG, Invesco and now with Baring Private Equity Asia. AIG was actually born in Shanghai back in 1919 and one of my first projects for AIG was the refurbishment of 17 Bund where AIG had its very first office.

I have now implemented over 115 base building projects to date throughout Asia Pacific with a GFA of over 33 million sq.ft. and approximately USD7.5 billion in contract value. Notable projects include the 17 Bund historic restoration in Shanghai, AIA Central office development in Hong Kong, refurbishment of the Shanghai Centre in Shanghai – the first mixed used development by foreign developers in China, development of the Seoul IFC mixed used development in Korea, development of the Sail@Marina – the tallest residential in Singapore at completion, development of the Kachidoki Tokyo Tower – the tallest residential in Tokyo at completion.

I am also a regular speaker at green and sustainability related conferences throughout Asia Pacific including in China and have been a guest lecturer at Zhejiang University & Hong Kong University. In addition, I participate in philanthropic and community charities including the Half the Sky Orphanage in Guangzhou, World Vision charity in Cebu, Philippines & Nairobi, Kenya along with the Good Shephard School & Women’s Shelter in Phuket, Thailand and Santisuk School for disadvantaged children in Bangkok, Thailand.

Mr Nicholas Coyle
   CEO, AustCham Beijing

Mr Nick Coyle is the CEO and Executive Director of the China-Australia Chamber of Commerce Beijing, a non-profit organisation that represents Australian companies and individuals conducting business in China. AustCham’s overriding objective is to advance Australian business in China, working to serve the needs of more than 250 corporate and individual members. Key focus areas center around government relations, providing information to Australian companies about China and its industries, connecting people, and advocacy. Under the leadership of Mr Coyle, AustCham Beijing often hosts cultural and networking events, such as The Great Aussie BBQ, the Australian Export Awards, and the Future Business Leaders Series – all strategically developed with the aim of facilitating and strengthening Chinese Australian business ties.

Mr Wayne (Zhongwei) Sun
   Chairman & CEO, Shandong Jinzhu Holdings

Mr Zhongwei Wayne Sun is the chairman and CEO of Jinzhu Holdings in China as well as the director of Sun Property Group in Australia. Established in 1951 with a history of over 67 years, Jinzhu Holdings is an integrated multinational corporation spanning over construction, property development, senior care industry, agriculture and a few more sectors. In addition to his work, Mr Sun is deeply committed in participating in philanthropic activities. He joined the Society of Entrepreneurs and Ecology (SEE) in 2014 as the  vice president at Shandong Project Centre.

Wayne is  also a member of Institution of Engineers Australia, the chairman of Liaocheng Real Estate Association, the postdoctoral supervisor of innovation centre and graduate tutor of Liaocheng University, and the honorary chairman of Shandong Chamber of Commerce in Australia. He has received numerous awards in recognition of his achievements, including Award of Liaocheng’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons, Award of Young Professional Experts for Outstanding Contributions in Liaocheng, Award of Liaocheng’s Top Entrepreneurs, and Start-ups Merit Award for Shandong Overseas Returnees etc.
